The story
Remington's first sculpture balances a cowboy and a rearing bronc on just two hooves, and it became the most famous Western bronze ever made. Roosevelt's Rough Riders gave him a cast when they mustered out in 1898, and a version has stood in the Oval Office under many presidents.
About the painter
Painter · 1861–1909
Remington spent a short stretch on a Kansas ranch, then made the action pictures magazines wanted of the West. The late nocturnes are the quieter ones.
