The story

Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi is the sculptor. Carol M. Highsmith made the photograph. The Library of Congress dates the color transparency between 1980 and 2006 (item 2011632115, reproduction LC-DIG-highsm-13921) and states there are no known restrictions on publication. The Library's note says the Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated a National Monument in 1924, and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986. The print is cropped so the face and the torch fill the sheet.
