The story

Bierstadt named the peak 'Mount Rosalie' after Rosalie Ludlow, wife of his traveling companion. He later married her after her divorce. The painting sold for $25,000, a record at the time.

About the painter

Painter · 1830–1902

Bierstadt painted the western mountains in a Rome studio and sent the canvases on tour. The light was the advertisement.
