The story

A smiling cowboy sits a chestnut horse on open grassland under a wide sky, in a broad-brimmed hat, a red neckerchief and leather chaps, with a holstered revolver at his hip and a white bundle tied behind the saddle. The print's own caption reads simply A Cowboy; it was Detroit Publishing Co. number 51039 and is in the Library of Congress Photochrom Print Collection, which dates it between 1898 and 1905. Detroit Photographic Co. made the color with the Swiss photochrom process, printing a black-and-white negative through a separate lithographic stone for each color.
