The story

This painting hangs in the White House, where it has been part of the collection for decades. It's a pure Bierstadt fantasy of light breaking over a mountain lake.

About the photographer

1830–1902

Bierstadt painted the western mountains in a Rome studio and sent the canvases on tour. The light was the advertisement.

Size guide

The size you order is the photograph. A framed print adds a 2.5 inch mat and the moulding, so the outside is larger than the print. Canvas is the face size, with a 1.5 inch edge that does not add to the front.
