The story

Morris Lapidus' curving Fontainebleau opened in December 1954 and critics hated it; guests loved it. Gottscho shot it a few months later, when it was the most glamorous hotel in America.

About the photographer

Photographer · 1914–1980

Samuel Gottscho and William Schleisner photographed buildings for the people who built them. In 1955 they made the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach, pool and tower, before the glass doubled.
