Two photographs of one statue. Thomas Crawford sculpted the Statue of Freedom. The Architect of the Capitol writes that he was born in New York City, kept a studio in Rome, and died in 1857, before the plaster model left that studio. The Library of Congress carte de visite of about 1860 shows the plaster in National Statuary Hall. Philip Reid, an enslaved artisan, cast it in bronze in a foundry run by Clark Mills. The second print is Carol M. Highsmith’s photograph of the bronze on the Capitol dome, dated by the Library between 1980 and 2006. The Architect of the Capitol dates that bronze 1863 and gives its height as 19 feet 6 inches. Both Library records state there are no known restrictions on publication. The plaster photograph is a 12 × 20 paper poster at $34, with no rolled canvas. The dome photograph starts at $29 on paper and includes rolled canvas. Framed prints start at $149.
